Location Acquisition and Stickiness
On some objects such as team base a player needs to be very close to the location indicated by the GPS to acquire lock on the location. Once lock has been acquired the player has stickiness to the location that extends much farther the initial acquisition zone. This feature allows players to defend their base more easily.
Voluntarily Leaving The Game
Answering a phone call, viewing a text message, pressing the home key all result in the player leaving the game. They may decline the phone call or to read a text message to continue the game.
A player may press the Leave button to leave the game as well.
If they happen to be a team leader and leave the game other players will receive a game canceled message. This can also happen if a team leader leaves during the team building process.
Winning the Game
The position of the flag at the beginning of the game sets the team's base and should they lose their flag it must be returned to this position before they can win the game.
In addition to having their own flag in the base, position a team must hold the other team's flag at this location for 30 seconds to win.
Game has been won is indicated by an audio and visual messages and some music appropriate for a winning team.
Maintain both flags at base, for thirty seconds to win game.
Game Lost
Loss of a game occurs when your team's flag has been captured and held at the opposing team's base for about thirty seconds. The opposing team's flag must also be at their base.
The end of game timers and music is reset if the player that has your flag is injured. That player will have to respawn to recapture the flag and start the count if there are not more opposing team players nearby, this may provide sufficient time to recapture your flag.
Game has been lost is indicated by an audio and visual messages and some sad music to accompany the loss.
Game Options
Game options are selected from the Main Menu. Once the options have been set, they are persistent and will be the default for any new game.
The game can provide voice alerts which are suitable for use while learning the game, but likely not necessary once a person has played a few times. Audio effects may also be used to keep players informed of what is happening; usually players will want this feature turned on.
Players may select a tactical name for communications and identification purposes, by default the apple ID will be used but another name may be typed in this text box. Tap to select the text box, a keypad will appear on the screen to facilitate entering of a new name.
If turned ON theme music plays during startup and variations may play at times the background during game play.
Game Environment
It is intended that Capture the Flag will be played outdoors. It is recommended for a rich experience that the playing area be larger than a couple of football fields and that no two points within the pay area be more than one kilometer apart.
Game Safety
Players are cautioned that the game is played amongst all the natural hazards of the area with the addition of a visual display and game dynamics that can be distracting. For personal safety players need to stay alert to their physical environment.
Text Messaging
Press the text balloon to send a text message to your teammates. A textbox and keypad will appear on the screen to facilitate entering the message. Press Send to send the message to all your team members.
Each team member will revive the message in a message balloon that appears above their player icon.
Catastrophic Failures
There are several events that result in game termination or inability of a player to continue. Answering an incoming phone call will result in the player leaving the game. They may decline the phone call to continue the game. It is possible to be in a phone call and start a game, the game will proceed along fine. In our testing at Situware we have had Bluetooth headsets working with the game, but unfortunately the performance of the game was inconsistent. We plan to pursue this issue further a
Connection failures or being dropped out of a game arbitrarily, dead batteries are undesirable realities, all of which result in the player having to restart in a new game.
