Launching Capture The Flag

The Capture The Flag application may be selected form the Spring Board by tapping on its icon. The game requires that the Bluetooth be turned On, Wi-Fi turned off and Location Services is turned on.

Creating a Game

It is possible for more than one game to be played in the same area at the same time. To facilitate this possibility, each game can have a unique name assigned by the games creator, which after the games creation will be used by nearby players to join the game.
Before creating the game a person may customize the game name and select resource counts from within the create game view.

A resource counts indicates the number of times a weapon or medical kit may be used. A different value is selected by sliding the control.

Electromagnetic pulse (EMP), Personal Guided Missiles (PGM) and Medical kit counts (Med) are replenished to this count value every time a player respawns. Mines differ in that mines in the field that have not been detonated, count as an active resource, so when mines are replenished the number available may not be this count number. Rather the number available will be the count number minus those mines that are active in the field.

For convenience the default Game Name is the player's tactical name with an 's attached. The tactical name may be set in the settings view accessed from the Main Menu.

Pressing the Create key will send messages to the server requesting a game lobby to receive other team members and establish a game database. The name of the game is broadcast over Bluetooth for display on the handsets for nearby players. Several messages appear as the setup progresses.

Typically the messages indicate favorable progress as shown below. Messages tell the current status and may give sufficient information for resolution of the problem. For example it is likely that the creator of the game will receive the waiting for other team leader message. It is just a reminder that he may have to prompt someone to accept the team leader role.

Messages can be more critical such as the one shown below. It is intended that the corrective action may be inferred from the message and the specifics of the situation.

Once the other team leader has been established the creator and the other team leader will both have an aerial view map with a button that will allow them to establish their team's base.  It possible that your position does not appear on the display you may use the zoom and scroll features or press the Center button which has been provide to center the map view to your location.

Joining A Game

Players joins an existing game by pressing the Select Game button on the main menu and selecting a game from the list of available games in the join game view. Usually there will only be one game available.
Once they have selected a game, one of the players will need to choose to be a team leader; others will be choosing which team they will join.
If a second team leader has not been established the player will be presented with the option to become a leader. If they do not wish to be a leader they may simply press No to decline.

Team Leader

The primary roles for both leaders is to establish a team, ensure team members have successfully joined their team, then transport the flag to a strategically favorable location. The team name is the tactical name of the person who established the game and the person volunteering to be the second team leader. Once the second team leader has volunteered the two teams are established and broadcast, so that others may select the team they intend to join.

Joining a Team

Once teams have been established players waiting for team leaders and players entering the game will be presented with the select team view. Selection of a team is achieved by touching then moving the blue icon to the desired team and lifting finger off the display.

Now that a team has been selected, a player progresses to the Game view. It is from this view that the game is actually played. Your position is indicated by a light blue dot icon.
You may on occasion need to press the center map button located on the top right, to center the map display to your location.

Once the team leader drops the flag you will see the location of your base, flag and other team members. The darker Blue dots are your team members, tap on them to show the members tactical name. Your flag and base are blue and are visible to all your team members throughout the game.

Bluetooth Set, Reset and Retry

On some occasions the player will not ever be presented a game to join. Often it is possible to reestablish the Bluetooth connection by pressing the Bluetooth retry button located on the top right of the display.
On other occasions more drastic measures may need to be employed. It may be necessary for the player to leave the game, turn the Bluetooth enable off for a moment then turn it back on. This switch is located in iPhone Settings - General - Bluetooth.
The player will have to launch the application and select the game again.

Other iPhone Settings

iPhone settings are accessed by tapping the settings icon in the Spring Board. Three settings need to be made to play Capture the Flag, the settings are Bluetooth which needs to be turned on. Location Services also needs to be turned on. Location services may be set in the general view. From general view players may select the Blue Tooth view to turn on Bluetooth. The third is Wi-Fi which like Blue Tooth has its own view. Wi-Fi needs to be set to off during Game play.
